After college Joe obtained a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Wyoming. While there he continued to play rugby. His professional career working on electrical utility systems took him all over the world. He found satisfaction in the work and enjoyed the travel. Professionally, he was most proud of his time in Iraq following the Second Gulf War. There, at considerable personal peril, Joe helped rebuild the devastated electrical infrastructure, often in remote and dangerous locations.
He was heavily involved in humanitarian work and was a member of the Advisory Board of Injustice Anywhere, a group that highlights wrongful convictions and advocates for wrongly convicted persons. He was well known and much appreciated for his work on the Amanda Knox case. Joe was always a giver.
Joe was a loyal son of Dartmouth, a dedicated member of the DRFC, a good friend and a fine person. His teammates will miss him and have made a contribution to the DRFC in his memory.
