On Saturday, October 7th, 2023 Daniel Paul Siegfried passed away after a long battle. Born in Toledo, Ohio on September 17th, 1985 to Paul and Michelle, and an eager older sister, Daniel was a curious and thoughtful child, with a sense for adventure even at an early age.
Growing up in North Ridgeville and Avon, Ohio playing in neighborhood creeks and racing bikes, Dan excelled both academically and athletically. To the pure delight of his family and community, he led track, baseball, basketball, and football teams to victories and brought home glowing report cards.
Attending college at Dartmouth in New Hampshire, Dan fell in love with New England and his family loved watching him come alive in new ways and forge new relationships. While at Dartmouth, Dan joined DRFC in the fall of 2007 as a “crossover” athlete from football his junior year, initially garnering reps at flanker before moving to the front row, like all wise men should do. Learning the game from scratch in a short time period is a significant hurdle for anyone, but he navigated that process well, pursuing rugby with tremendous energy, motivation and hard work not only to become an accomplished rugby player but ultimately a key member at loosehead prop of our 2008 Collegiate National Championship Round of 16 team as well as being selected to the 2008 All-Ivy Team as Dartmouth became Ivy Rugby Champions.
After Dartmouth, Dan moved to New York to start a career in real estate development- a dream come true for him that he further advanced with an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Dan was able to connect with anyone and loved a good story - making one and hearing one. He was a loyal friend. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Marian and Ivan Siegfried and John Durbin. He is loved and survived by his parents Michelle Durbin and Paul Siegfried, his sister Kathryn Siegfried, brother-in-law Julian Christian and nephew and niece Julian Paul Edwin and Jane Brice Elizabeth. He will be remembered also by his grandmother Donna Durbin, aunts, uncles, cousins and so many friends. Daniel will be laid to rest in Avon, Ohio on Saturday, October 21st.
“Dan Siegfried was a fierce competitor on the field, but a kind and gentle soul off of it. He was also a great teammate. I was honored to be his coach at Dartmouth.” – Alex Magleby ‘00
