David Bathrick '58 dies in Germany at 84

Beloved Cornell University emeritus professor and scholar David Bathrick, who taught theater arts, German studies and Jewish studies at Cornell for 20 years, died April 30, 2020 at his home in Bremen, Germany. He was 84.


Dave was a premier tackle on Dartmouth's 1958 championship football team who also played rugby (2nd rower) for four years. Because he spent a year in Germany between his sophomore and junior years at Dartmouth, this '58 graduated in 1959. Fortunately for both him and the rugby team, that one-year delay resulted in his being a member of the history-making teams that went to England and California in the 1958/1959 school year.

David chaired the Department of Theatre, Film and Dance (now Performing and Media Arts) at Cornell from 1995-2002. More details on his legacy can be found here:
